One Hundred and Fifty-Three!

This and the next two images were all made from the same set up, laying color down below and working around it with graphite. It is a great way to build an environment. Enjoy and see you next time.

One Hundred and Forty-Six!

All of the following images are made in the same manner, by applying a layer of graphite completely at will with no reference and then entering the space and creating depth and layers. I had a blast making these and the following five posts. I hope you find them as interesting or intriguing as I do. Enjoy!

Day fifty-seven!

Photo I took at Halibut Point…

So I apologize for not getting this up yesterday, but my husband and I took a somewhat spur of the moment overnight adventure to Gloucester and Rockport MA. It was amazing for those who are unfamiliar with the area. I myself had no memory of either place, although I’m sure at sometime during my youth I was there. I’ve always had an obsession with seaside towns and the fishing industry, which is why I always wanted to visit Gloucester. Rockport is an artist hub and there is so much to take in there. We actually didn’t do as much Gallery hopping as I would have liked too but we did get to walk around Halibut Point which was beautiful and the inspiration for yesterdays drawing as well as todays. All I can say is I loved both of these areas and they have given me a new found love for the North Shore, which for anyone who knows me I’m a true South Shore kinda gal. I’ll be going back to do a bit more exploring! Enjoy and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Day Fourteen

WEEK TWO! Day Fourteen, I’m so happy that I have made it through week two and needless to say it wasn’t even hard work! Tonight I decided to actually do what I said I would yesterday and try and work an image with only a gray-scale. This image was really enjoyable to work on and it has inspired tomorrows piece! I want to work on something larger and do a “state” of it on one day and then try to drastically change it for the next day and so on. I’ve always loved to see how much an image develops when it has a strong history.

Life note, it was also the first day of all 6 dogs I might add… interesting morning but it ended up working out by nightfall. Having the yard for all 6 to run around in at once has been a savior without it I would look like the crazy dog lady walking down the street, but luckily I could probably easily get away with the excuse of horrible dog walker! Anyway, it’s Saturday so I need to be done with this and enjoy the rest of the evening. See you tomorrow!

DAY SEVEN

Today is day seven, one week today and well I’m happy to say I managed to get a post up even if I had such a little amount of time to work. All I did today was work on some sketches for shapes and layers. They are nothing major but they are the building blocks for the watercolors that hopefully I will continue with tomorrow.

DAY FOUR

Drawing number four, check… finished at 10:30pm, which in reality is still not that late. I’m happy to have just forced myself to sit and draw, when I was pretty tired from somewhat of a draining day. I’m warning those who don’t care to hear about my day, today was not the uplifting perfect day I had yesterday, there was a lot of complaining and aggravating occurrences which I am going to tell you about if you choose to read on. Regardless, thanks stopping by the check out my post and enjoy!

Today was a series of unfortunate events (and yes I stole that line from the movie title) with a few minor rewarding moments intermingled. My day began before 6am, GROSS, followed by my morning commute which took more than double the normal amount of time. I’m never good in early morning traffic but luckily this was just another reminder of exactly why I took a job much closer to home. The day at The Source was dull but one customer drove me nuts and to make it worse her last name is so similar to mine, I can’t stand sharing my name with these frustrating people. On the upside I got to visit with a very good friend, Miss Meagan after work and we indulged in my favorites, wine and buffalo anything. It’s ridiculous! After, I headed home back towards the oceanfront, but I had one more stop, little did I know what was in store.

I went into Michael’s, the crafting store, about 10 min to close so I went straight for what I needed and headed to check out. Now on the way in I had seen this one woman approaching the register I should have just turned and run out,but I was in a crazy mindset from paper. When I got close to her I realized she literally had like 400 sheets of 12 x 12 scrap booking paper, mental. Now for those who don’t realize that’s 400 separate skus that need to be scanned in. Anyway, I was calm so I turned around and started walking the store, it was like the Michael’s 5000 race and I was just doing laps to kill time, but the next thing I knew the lights were dimmed. Now I have been in stores around closing and find it completely appropriate to shut the music off or make an announcement but to shut most of the lights OFF seems a bit creepy. So I got the hint and headed towards the register where this woman was still unloading her sheets. Thank god she saw me making a sad puppy dog face after about 10 minutes, because she ended up splitting her transaction and letting me and another woman go. After I was rung in I was like a bat outta hell. I was on a mission to get home since I still hadn’t started drawing.

I got home around 9:30, made a cup of tea, took my spot at the table and woohoo, another drawing complete! Lovely, good day overall.

The First Entry

Welcome to 365 Days 1 Year. If you haven’t read the “about this blog” section then let me recap what this blog is about.

In May of 2011 I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a degree in printmaking and at first everything seemed all good and dandy, but quickly I realized how hard it would be to continue my current artistic pace in my “grown up” world. After Graduation I was promoted to Assistant Manager at my job and was accepted as a member of EES  (experimental Etching Studio) in Hyde Park. Being accepted as a member was such a huge step for me and I was beyond thrilled! In the Fall I was asked to TA an Etching class at Mass Art for a former teacher (Nona Hershey) which was a wonderful experience.

Soon after all the good news reality started to jump in. My loans came out of deferment, I was working every moment and commuting over 10 hours and I still wasn’t making ends meet. The printshop had become a foreign location to me and my drawing materials were collecting dust. This was only 7 months out  from my graduation in December. Life seemed to be moving in a direction that I just wasn’t excited about and I felt as if I were losing myself.

I decided it was time to make a change.

A change was a much harder task then I had imagined. I started to learn how to airbrush and was working at my husbands shop once a week, which felt great at first but limited due to only accessing it once a week. I started focusing on me and trying to give myself some time to just think about what I wanted… and I think I’ve figured it out.

Since that time I have moved on from Assistant Manager and was hired into a new position that is much closer to home as well as a place I can work hard and leave it there when my shift ends. Since the whole idea is to find myself in this I decided to start this blog as a way to track my artistic journey over the next year.

The blog is designed to be a journal of each days creative outlet, whether it be a drawing, painting, or sculpture. I am hoping to start developing a body of work out of this project. The works are not meant to be complete or to be a master pieces, they can range from a piece of scrap paper to a canvas, they are merely an outlet for my thoughts and ideas. A constant creative experience.

Along this journey I would love for others to participate when they can or give feedback on my current ideas.

Fingers crossed this helps me feel like myself again.
