My dad said “hey look it’s the Travelocity Gnome” but I’d like to think my guy is a bit more interesting! The snow that has been completely consuming my life inspired the landscape and although it was not intentional the sky appears to be my interpretation of an aurora borealis. Back to the furry critters. Not entirely sure what prompted the stacking but I went with it. Not too much to discuss, this is really just a study on different variations on position. I hope to eventually put them all together and work on a story line. Enjoy and See you next time.
Doodles that start at work are sometimes exactly what you need to get ideas flowing. They serve as a mindless drawing and once you tune in may develop into something more. I really enjoy the elements that make up this drawing. The combination of pen, highlighter and paint make for an interesting variation. The colors are of course somewhat limited to what was available but even that serves as a great learning point. Please let me know your thoughts. Enjoy and see you next time!
Another New England Day has arrived and with it more snow. The Winter has officially come to that point where every time I see a snow flake I want to lay down where ever I am and throw a royal tantrum. I’m fully aware that I live in New England and that snow is a part of our winters here but for all of you who keep saying “you should be used to this by now” just know that I am on the verge of punching you in the face. The image below I believe came from my subconscious. Initially based off mound of good old White Powder the warming forces have now encompassed them and force them into a warming spring-like environment. I hope Spring pops out soon from behind whatever massive snow bank it is currently hiding behind. Enjoy and see you next time.
OMG, 300 down only 65 more to go before April 2nd, about 45 days. I haven’t been able to get ahead of the 1.5 drawings a day but at least I am currently on track. I find week nights most difficult as the choice between a yummy meal, a good work out, the chance to draw, sleep or just relax becomes pretty tough. Regardless, it is images like this that remind me I need to paint. Above is the full image, its long and skinny like prior post but its my exploration of these furry critters that I enjoy. I tried to give them a story, whether that be the journey through the dark with only a lantern for light or the welcoming sight of a friend at their front door. Below are close-ups of each critter. Love my little critters. I need to practice with these characters more often though. This was never intended to be an image with a mouse but instead a study of shape. When the mouse developed I ran with it but there were a number of images that came off the same sheet of paper that did focus on shape development and my use of watercolor. Those will be posted once they are complete. Enjoy and see you next time!
It’s a bugs life….. well maybe. This started because I wanted to draw a cricket but at the time I got overwhelmed by the cricket, hence the incomplete bug at the top of the image. Naturally I chose a new bug, a beetle to be exact, which one? who knows, who cares to be quite honest. I just know that I enjoyed painting him. Maybe this is because of my recent run in with Lady Bugs. I don’t know where the come from but I always seem to have one in my house. Mind you its mid winter and approximately 20 degrees outside. A little concerning but that’s what Terminex is for! Enjoy and see you next time.
Sticking with the furry critters, I tackled a new rabbit friend. I like how official he feels standing so straight up. I love animal behavior especially when it contradicts their natural movement. Saying that I am fully aware that rabbits can stand like this but it seems a bit awkward. I just imagine him delivering a little speech soon arms raising up to emphasize his story. Naturally, the small addition of the bow was necessary, a full blow vest would have been ideal had I not already drawn in the fur. Next time! Enjoy.

Switching gears, focusing on some character drawings instead. I know it seems somewhat strange that I jump from totally random or abstract imagery to this but I love the result of these studies.I want to integrate the two but until then I will work on them separately. This little fellow was too cute to not draw and in regards to the wheels… I have no idea. Maybe next time he will be driving the cart these wheels belong to! That would be a pretty great image. Let’s revert back to the tree like imagery once again…. Not a fan but I am trying to just go with the challenge and not edit what I post. Based partly on the view from my back window, which currently comprises of snow mounds 4 feet high and the tops of fences and shrubbery peaking out from behind it. I will say that I was able to integrate some thoughts which always feels good. I love journaling and this is a way for me to integrate that idea into my works. Enjoy and see you next time!
