Day Twenty-four

Today was such a wonderful day. Well, almost amazing minus the whole alarm not going off AGAIN (my Iphone is malfunctioning). I was meeting a friend at the gym at the crack ass of dawn and somehow made it there on time regardless that my alarm never went off. After the gym I went to a coffee shop and just sat back and tried to relax for a while before work. I put on my headphones and started sketching. My “musical” inspirations today consisted of Billie Holiday,  Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Etta James and the Dropkick Murphy’s. Nice little mix before work. I hope that when I finally decide on a gym that I will have these kinds of opportunities more often to just sit back write, draw and listen to everything around me. Anyway, this was what I came up with today, tomorrow is my day off and I’ll be off on some kind of adventure I imagine! Can’t wait to see what is in store. See you tomorrow.

Day Twenty-three

I can tell you that when I got home from work all I wanted to do was sleep, but I was super excited to see my sister and her family who arrived back from Florida today! We had been watching their two puppies so once they headed home tonight we were down to four dogs, that’s nothing once you have had six puppies! Anyway I worked from 10 to 8 today and started drawing around 9:30… I needed to finish something rather quickly mainly because I am meeting a friend at 6:45 in the morning to go to the gym and let’s be honest who REALLY wants to wake up at like 5:45am to get out of the house in time to go to the gym. I honestly am excited to get my workout in early but the sooner I head to bed the better. As for drawing, I was delighted to have worked on something today. I also filled out my application for Open Studios, which is always a good time. Now to get some of my finished works framed! EXCITING! Alright, I’ll see you tomorrow!

DAY TWENTY TWO!

Can you believe that this is officially the start of the fourth week, crazy how quickly the time has been passing. I am amazed that I have produced 21 images not complete or wonderful or anything but 21 images I can call mine that is probably more than I had done all year-long. It is great to see how quickly one can develop and work on ideas if there is a goal in mind or maybe a structure set up. Anyway, I wanted to dabble back into watercolor and again the color aspect throws me through a loop but it like building an image the way I do. It is so nice to just draw intuitively and react to what I have laid down on the paper. I’m so not a planner and actually my best work typically comes at a point when I have let go and don’t care anymore. Imagine the day though when I can work a piece and actually have an idea and like the finished image, wow!

This was my favorite kind of day by the way, completely rainy outside and a wonderful gray overcast sky. Me and Lee went running on the beach which was entertaining, it was so cold, wet (and not because it is the ocean, it was raining) and windy and oddly enough we had a blast.  After we got in it was like heaven, the hot air of the house just relaxed every muscle. Now I’m finishing up my image because I have just discovered an amazing talk show, The Graham Norton Show on BBC america, it is so funny! Anyway, sorry if the image feels incomplete, my mind has jumped onto new things for the day! See you tomorrow.

DAY TWENTY!

feels like a milestone today! Funny how since I started this challenge every day seems like a milestone for its own particular reason whether it be the  actual numerical day or because I am shocked that I actually got something posted! Regardless, I am happy with what I have been doing. Today’s post is coming a bit late but better late than never. I spent the day working, then a wonderful 3.5 mile walk/talk with a very good friend followed by some cooking, Shepard’s Pie to be precise, a big hit in the Fogarty household! Anyway, today’s image was a layering process for me I started with one base shape and kept building from there. What it did make me realize is that I think I want to try this concept in color so watercolor here I come… Could tomorrow bare color, the world may never know…. until DAY TWENTY ONE!

Day Sixteen

Today was such a beautiful April day, Marathon Monday here in Boston. It was crazy hot though for the runners, it was like 84 which when running a marathon can not be enjoyable. I don’t even enjoy like 70’s for a 5k… Id prefer like 40/50. Anyway, had to work a bit today which was fine and after work on my way back into the lovely town of Hull I was stuck in crazy traffic for ages. In a way it was kind of entertaining, There were so many people and the cars were insane, people were parking everywhere. If there was like a bit of grass/dirt/undesignated pavement they were parking there. The out-of-town beach goers were not in luck though there were like 3+ tow trucks just hauling away cars. Mad really it looked like Southie on the street cleaning days.  Those outta towners never learn. Anyway, I started drawing around 6 and enjoyed the cooling weather on the back porch. Now this image I’m not crazy about and I think that this will be the one I “destroy” and try to develop something else from it. Tomorrow I have the day off and after my morning class I plan to find a good spot to work from… Hope I find my inspiration! See you tomorrow.

Day Fifteen

Today was such a wonderful and perfect day. For those of you who don’t live in the Boston area, it was sunny like high 70’s and perfect. My day started with a run on the beach with the hubby and some after run breakfast sandwiches. When we got back to the house we set up camp on the back porch and things only got better from there. The SIX puppies were running amuck in the backyard having a ball while I was drawing and lee was reading. Now, many hours later all the dogs are completely panned out ALL over the house, mainly because there are six of them! As for the drawing, I spent some time just developing the image and although I said I would rework it tomorrow I don’t know if I am really ready to. Also, sticking to the monochromatic color scheme has really been helpful for my imagery because it takes away a bit of distraction. Anyway, Ill see you tomorrow!

Day Fourteen

WEEK TWO! Day Fourteen, I’m so happy that I have made it through week two and needless to say it wasn’t even hard work! Tonight I decided to actually do what I said I would yesterday and try and work an image with only a gray-scale. This image was really enjoyable to work on and it has inspired tomorrows piece! I want to work on something larger and do a “state” of it on one day and then try to drastically change it for the next day and so on. I’ve always loved to see how much an image develops when it has a strong history.

Life note, it was also the first day of all 6 dogs I might add… interesting morning but it ended up working out by nightfall. Having the yard for all 6 to run around in at once has been a savior without it I would look like the crazy dog lady walking down the street, but luckily I could probably easily get away with the excuse of horrible dog walker! Anyway, it’s Saturday so I need to be done with this and enjoy the rest of the evening. See you tomorrow!

DAY NINE

Here we are, day nine. This is being posted a bit late but that’s only because I had so many other things going on. Today was the first day where I wasn’t constantly thinking about my drawings. It kind of bothered me but luckily tomorrow I have the day “off” and hopefully I will have some good time in the morning for concentrating on ideas. I’d like to tackle something a bit bigger. Most of these are on Watercolor paper about 11″ x 15″ or 8.5″ x 11″. I’m not exactly sure why I want to go bigger and I sure as hell can’t guarantee that will do anything good for the image but sometimes it gives me a bit more freedom to loosen up and although I have only been making these images for a few I feel somewhat restricted.

On another note I would like to announce that today was the first day of my official new job. It’s a good vibe there and seems to be a good place for my head. Also, it’s super close to home so no more ridiculous car rides trying to make sense of why I was driving so far. Instead I can use that time to focus on my art or sit at the beach and read. Imagine, ME TIME! love it.

DAY EIGHT

WOOHOO… I am onto week 2, not bad 1 down and only 51 weeks to go, makin progress. Got up early enough, well I was the first one up at the house at least…. it was 10am. I was working from the sketches I did last night and although I’m not completely crazy about the worm shaped elements (which actually came from seeing a mop head) they do seem to add a new dynamic.  Time to sit back and relax for the rest of the Easter day. Happy Easter! See you tomorrow.

DAY SEVEN

Today is day seven, one week today and well I’m happy to say I managed to get a post up even if I had such a little amount of time to work. All I did today was work on some sketches for shapes and layers. They are nothing major but they are the building blocks for the watercolors that hopefully I will continue with tomorrow.
