Today was all about sketching with everyday materials. A pen, a highlighter and a sharpie. Oddly enough I kind of loved it! Enjoy and I will see you tomorrow!

Well even though today was Wednesday and typically Wednesday means my day off for rest and relaxation, I was completely busy all day long. This also means that although I plan for Wednesdays to be a good drawing day today kind of failed. I managed to sketch a tiny bit today in a small it of down time. I actually have nothing against the drawing itself other than it is quite simple and very incomplete, but I guess some days are just like that. Hoping tomorrow brings a bit more rest, working in the evening but theoretically that’s my only true obligation. HA! Anyway, Enjoy and I will see you tomorrow!
Photo I took at Halibut Point…
So I apologize for not getting this up yesterday, but my husband and I took a somewhat spur of the moment overnight adventure to Gloucester and Rockport MA. It was amazing for those who are unfamiliar with the area. I myself had no memory of either place, although I’m sure at sometime during my youth I was there. I’ve always had an obsession with seaside towns and the fishing industry, which is why I always wanted to visit Gloucester. Rockport is an artist hub and there is so much to take in there. We actually didn’t do as much Gallery hopping as I would have liked too but we did get to walk around Halibut Point which was beautiful and the inspiration for yesterdays drawing as well as todays. All I can say is I loved both of these areas and they have given me a new found love for the North Shore, which for anyone who knows me I’m a true South Shore kinda gal. I’ll be going back to do a bit more exploring! Enjoy and I’ll see you tomorrow.
Today was a good drawing day, although they were once again in my sketch book. I’ve prepped for tomorrow by doing some washes on some black drawing sheets. The lines of the notebook are somewhat annoying although my journal currently has some of the most wonderful graphics scattered throughout. Anyway, I was able to just go to Starbucks before work and work on this and tomorrow before work I hope to do the same except at a different cafe. I’m meeting my friend SAM (hope you read this!) and we are working out at 7:00 AM pretty gross but I know I’ll be happy after. On another note, I submitted some of my prints into a juried show, fingers crossed they get accepted! Have a goodnight, see you tomorrow!
Second day on the cape, sketches throughout the day of bits and pieces…. This day was full of so much inspiration from viewing different artists at loads of galleries in Provincetown and going of a few different walks around the nature preservation in the area. Not to mention the amazing eats at the Portuguese Bakery (a must hit spot on your next trip) as well as the amazing Rum Punch (Corin’s specialty) at Georges Pizza & Pub.
Lets be honest it is Saturday night and after dinner and drinks I wasn’t feeling the whole drawing thing but look I sat down and did a little something, which is more fun then artistic. I think I literally grabbed every colored pen I could see and just started drawing. Who knows I’m sure that tomorrow, Sunday fun day will be better. See you tomorrow.
Better late then never, It’s 11pm and I’m sitting on my floor writing this post because the computer is super dead and I am way to tired to wait to post so here I am sitting next to the only open outlet I can access in my room. I tried to get some work done this morning but I ended up going to work at 9:15 and things just didn’t work out before hand. After work, which I will add was super, I came home and went for a rather enjoyable run considering running sometimes makes me want to punch completely innocent bi-standards. Once I was home, for good, I picked up where I had left off this morning and continued. Not my best but I got into it at the end when I started building off the central image. I still think the green form is my favorite aspect, but the loosely drawn circles were the most liberating. After working for the entire day sometimes it is nice to just let go! who knows maybe I’ll go crazy and use charcoal tomorrow! I’ll see you tomorrow.
So today is the first of many to come, but I wanted to make sure I started out on the right foot by actually posting. Anyone who knows me knows I was excited about the prospect of this blog, but of course today came and I got easily distracted by wine and “the hunger games” which is a very good movie. Regardless, I made sure to get to drawing once I came home and although I had no idea where to begin I’ve created something, which is exactly what I wanted to do.
Welcome to 365 Days 1 Year. If you haven’t read the “about this blog” section then let me recap what this blog is about.
In May of 2011 I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a degree in printmaking and at first everything seemed all good and dandy, but quickly I realized how hard it would be to continue my current artistic pace in my “grown up” world. After Graduation I was promoted to Assistant Manager at my job and was accepted as a member of EES (experimental Etching Studio) in Hyde Park. Being accepted as a member was such a huge step for me and I was beyond thrilled! In the Fall I was asked to TA an Etching class at Mass Art for a former teacher (Nona Hershey) which was a wonderful experience.
Soon after all the good news reality started to jump in. My loans came out of deferment, I was working every moment and commuting over 10 hours and I still wasn’t making ends meet. The printshop had become a foreign location to me and my drawing materials were collecting dust. This was only 7 months out from my graduation in December. Life seemed to be moving in a direction that I just wasn’t excited about and I felt as if I were losing myself.
I decided it was time to make a change.
A change was a much harder task then I had imagined. I started to learn how to airbrush and was working at my husbands shop once a week, which felt great at first but limited due to only accessing it once a week. I started focusing on me and trying to give myself some time to just think about what I wanted… and I think I’ve figured it out.
Since that time I have moved on from Assistant Manager and was hired into a new position that is much closer to home as well as a place I can work hard and leave it there when my shift ends. Since the whole idea is to find myself in this I decided to start this blog as a way to track my artistic journey over the next year.
The blog is designed to be a journal of each days creative outlet, whether it be a drawing, painting, or sculpture. I am hoping to start developing a body of work out of this project. The works are not meant to be complete or to be a master pieces, they can range from a piece of scrap paper to a canvas, they are merely an outlet for my thoughts and ideas. A constant creative experience.
Along this journey I would love for others to participate when they can or give feedback on my current ideas.
Fingers crossed this helps me feel like myself again.
