Well another year has arrived…

OK, first off I would like to say that I feel like a slacker. I have not painted or drawn in months (other than the quick doodle on a notepad) and all I can really put it down to is mental state of mind. I have thought about picking up a pencil or paintbrush and just putting some marks on paper but then I always get discouraged. I couldn’t necessarily tell you why but I am done with that and it’s time to move on.

Yesterday on my drive home I decided this was going to be the final year of this actual challenge. Almost 3 years ago I started this challenge with the original goal of completing 365 drawings in one year starting on April 2nd 2012. Now it’s February 6th of 2015 and I have exactly 55 days to complete the remaining 79 images. I think it will be tough but as my husband pointed out it all depends to what degree of finished I expect them to be. I mean there were many images over the past 286 that took 5 days to complete.

So, what I propose is this. 79 drawings over the next 55 days. That’s about 1.5 drawings a day. When all is said and done that would mean 365 drawings over 3 years, which when you think about it is a drawing every 3 days, sounds pretty good actually.

Now I am not saying that when I complete this task I will put away my paint brush or burn all my remaining paper. That is not my intent at all. Basically I will just move onto the next project. For years I have thought of using all of these images as a starting point for a more finished body of work but would not allow myself to really go there until the first project was complete. That day is quickly approaching, let’s hope I can make it. This will be a sprint to the finish line!

As always thanks for dropping by and I hope you will visit again.

A quick sketch of shape and line, I always seem to revert to the design work when I am feeling lost. I suppose I have been so focused on other aspects of life recently my artwork has taken a step in the wrong direction. Hopefully with the recent revamp of my work space I will find it a bit easier to feel inspired to work at home. I’ll keep you posted, Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Seventy!

A few random bird sketches. These were never meant to be more than what they are but I was just messing around and decided birds would be the topic of choice for a few. In all fairness these are not super new, but summer has been so crazy busy and I haven’t had time to really dedicate any time to this page. I’m feeling rather inspired after finally completing one major summer project, a surprise 65th I hosted for my mom! It was lovely and she was completely taken by surprise, Ill add a link soon to see some of the details. Enjoy and see you next time!

Above are a collection of sketches I made for my new tattoo. Initially the idea was more involved but the longer I worked the image the simpler I wanted it. Although I do love the first two images they would have made for a more complicated and probably less clean image. The tattoo has a lot of meaning for me however I’m not to inclined to discuss it on here. Maybe if you know me I’ll tell you in person. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Fifty-Three!

image

Its Tayto! Recently I was approached by a few people who were looking to have images of their dogs made into art pieces. Now granted it’s just a portrait but I need to start building a library of images to show these potential customers. On that note, I decided to draw Tayto yawning. It is one of my favorite images of him. Anyway Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Thirty Two

So, once again life has gotten in my way of creating my artwork on a regular basis, but you adapt and make it work however you can. As you will see from the following few posts, I have been drawing, writing and thinking about my artwork just not in any formal fashion. Welcome back the journal sketches.

So this image has been showing up from time to time based on this dilapitated tree I drive by everyday on my lovely commute to work. It has human characteristics to me and sometimes I expect it to come to life. maybe someday it will! Enjoy and see you next time.

Sad to say it is a Saturday night and I really never had an urge to leave the apartment so when I got bored I decided to tackle this image again. I really like the way this image is developing.  I’ve started to paint into the image, in the hopes of connecting the entire piece. I know it is not there yet but I am tired and want to sleep. I know who do I think I am… Sleeping! Regardless, the transparency of the lite acrylic washes in contrast with the super opaque color is wonderful. Interesting things are happening with the conversation between the graphite mark and the painted marks… curious! Enjoy I look forward to continuing with this image tomorrow, see you next time. 200!

One Hundred and Seventy-One!

After the fourth day of painting this image this is where I am. I don’t know how people paint with oils because the idea of not making changes along the way is HORRIFYING! Anyway, for right now I’m loving acrylics although I miss the richness of oils. One day right? I’m happy with the over all set up of the image, its busy but I think once I tone down some areas it wont be a visual explosion merely a wonderful color and shape experience! Below are some detail shots… Enjoy!

little egg forms hiding in the corners

I do love the fan/fin element… I used it in the past and it’s always a visual success, or at least I think so.

One Hundred Sixty-Eight, Nine and Seventy!

Alright so I have been working on one piece for a little bit recently and it is taking up multiple days. It was totally intimidating because it is the largest acrylic painting I have done since high school which was a while ago. Anyway I’m delighted I am trying this but I was super nervous about posting it before it was completed. It still is not done by any means BUT I have to show you what I have been doing. These are a few pictures of days 168, 169, and 170. The lower right corner was the first day, but unfortunately I did not photograph it at the end of the night so you have to use your imagination, a fearful endeavor I know! Enjoy!

So imagine day one bottom right up to the tips of the yellow cone-ish things that are nested within each other. Day two I added all the components on the left side, even the HORRIBLE lime green, which luckily did not last. Day three was the addition of the blue elements and some tweaking.

details, who doesn’t love a good detail!

After the third day, the green has been retouched, still not exactly where I want it but much better!
