Cape Escape 3 x 3

Once again I find myself getting inspired while away on vacation in the Cape. Maybe it’s because I had a chance to relax or maybe its because I was able to see A LOT of art. Either way it makes me happy.

First we stopped off at the Heritage Museum where they had a great exhibition showcasing three generations of The Wyeth Family. I was familiar with some of the works but had no idea how talented each family member was. The show focused on N.C, Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. I definitely recommend looking at their work. Each had their own voice but you can absolutely see how their work influenced each other.

The Second great art experience of the weekend was my visit to the Edward Gorey House. I’ve always been obsessed with his works and we figured why not check this place out for a whopping 8 Dollars! The tour was interesting and I loved just getting a glimpse into his mind via his collections, stories, clothes etc. Needless to say I bought a couple more books he illustrated, The Sopping Thursday and The Doubtful Guest, GREAT reads.

The rest of my time was spent wondering around Provincetown, indulging in bevies and foods and just looking. I mean really looking and taking things in not just walking with my eyes open. There is a difference you know.

The above was an interpretation of something I saw while running in Dennis. It’s by no means an exact account but it gives a general gist. It was a quick, relaxed sketch I did when I returned home.

This was an interpretation of the image above! Obviously more pattern inspired but again a good experience. Now to add some serious depth or color blocks and we would be all set.

Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Sixty-Five!

OMG, I finished and with 2 hours to spare! I finished the revised challenge that is, 365 images in 3 years time! We’ll it is the last post of the challenge and as I was scrambling to finish up the images I did have the opportunity to finish a couple pieces I felt really strongly about, this one included. It completed my panel piece which I will post in full at a later time. I love the critters in contrast with the designs on the eggs. I realize the two aspects don’t blend well but I love the juxtaposition. These little critters were initially born from  this challenge so it seemed fitting to end with a group of them. Also, as Easter is only a few days away why not celebrate! I’ll be doing a recap post this week so I won’t babble on here but always Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Fifty!

Another piece inspired by the window panes. This one went a little more abstract than I initially intended but I guess you learn with each piece. These are such simple images to make but they are relaxing and with each one I do they seem to show me different things. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-nine!

Sometimes babies are the hardest thing to draw and well when not done well they look like little creepy creatures. Unfortunately that is what happened with this image. As I’ve stated I am trying to just accept the work as I produce it which is the only reason I am posting this otherwise I would put this in the scrap paper pile. Please take note that the baby I used as reference is SO much cuter than depicted here. Anyway, one more down 26 to go. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Twenty Five!

For those of us that post our artwork online, sometimes it gets really difficult to post for the pure fear of someone stealing your artwork and claiming it to be their own. The more I venture into this illustrative world the harder everything becomes regarding posting. I know that you can copyright things but does that actually do anything, I mean once its on the internet I feel like it’s a free for all. Anyway, I was super happy with the way this image turned out. It started from a tiny sketch of a bird with garland and developed into this fun birthday piece. The colors really work for me here, they are bold and fun and I think would draw a kid right in. I mean think about it a little bird flying around your birthday party hanging decorations? I would lose my mind! Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Fifteen

Moving through the landscape you travel between buildings and your constantly approaching things from a different angle. I love how the color just draws you in and you start to see elements that were not so obvious at first glance. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Six!

When you start drawing buildings and allow your pen to just go this is sometimes the result. Initially starting with the clock tower the buildings began to take on influence from Indian Culture. I am probably watching too many shows on Indian food as it is a new obsession. The color is mental but that was due to an orange highlighter. I went a bit crazy with it and naturally as soon as the brush hit those areas the orange leached into whatever color I tried to put near if forcing the image to have an unintended warm glow. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Eighty-Seven!

Well here we are, image one of the newer version of my challenge, 79 images in 55 days. I haven’t worked in so long that the imagery just felt so sparatic. I like the range of marks and the use of color. It is funny what initially starts a piece for me. For this one, it was inspired during my drive home. There was a row of trees on the side of the road. I loved the way the trunks shot straight up  into the air and then became entwined in a web of branches. I cannot really speak to the other elements they just started to develop.

A quick sketch of shape and line, I always seem to revert to the design work when I am feeling lost. I suppose I have been so focused on other aspects of life recently my artwork has taken a step in the wrong direction. Hopefully with the recent revamp of my work space I will find it a bit easier to feel inspired to work at home. I’ll keep you posted, Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Fifty-Two!

image

This would be considered one of those work doodles I start while reviewing voicemails. Granted they evolve from there, but it seems to be a great starting point. Recently I have been obsessed with doodles because I was listening to some news channel which did a segment on “doodling” and how in a recent stufy people who doodle actual remember more details regarding whatever was going on. It always worked for me so I am a firm believer! Enjoy.
