Two Hundred Sixty-Two!

image

This is not my favorite, but I like elements of the image. It’s hard to look at this and feel accomplished. I will say that I am as usual a fan of the shapes but not the size relationship or the lack of variation in color. I need to get a better mixing pallet because the one I am currently working on is meant as a travel set, not the stationary at home set. What I find this means is that I have a very limited amount of space for mixing colors so I tend to stay within the same color range regularly.  A simple fix maybe… maybe I’ll just steal a kitchen plate! Enjoy

Two Hundred Fifty-Seven!

image

Abstract color wash exercise. I needed to clear my head and start mass producing. Do not be surprised if you suddenly see an increase in images being posted. I am on a mission to finish this challenge by the two-year mark! What I find most entertaining about this type of image making is that it always starts completely unorganized and as it develops I try to pull the image from what I’ve already laid down. It is such a different type of working method from all of the recent animal images which have to be planned even prior to laying the first mark on the paper. Enjoy.

Two Hundred Forty-One

I love this. Who doesn’t like spending Saturday evenings drawing abstract clusters while watching movies and drinking wine. Needless to say I think I needed a quick break from realistic imagery to get myself back in gear. I was messing with a few different shapes that I like to work with regularly as well as some new. I feel like I want to try this again on paper that might actually hold up and take on more mediums. The sharpie in this image was curling the paper after only a few minutes which irks my OCD. Lets just say that my journal is currently under a number of books to flatten out the pages that are warped from the more saturated mediums. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Thirty-Five

Not my typical imagery, but needless to say it happened. I’m not exaclty sure what I was going for in this image either considering the sky appears to be on fire, maybe post apocolypse? If so I hope I live in a cozy cottage like this when it all goes down. I do know this happened after going to a tiny B&B in Ireland which was nestled between two “mountains” also know as large hills, not covered in trees but sheep instead. Oddly enough my experience there was rather good minus the grumpy woman who yelled at me to come down to breakfast…. doesn’t she understand we were on vacation, sleeping in from the previous nights festivities? Enjoy and see you next time.

Two hundred Thirty-Three

The image below, was a combination of of different ideas, patterns and days. What happens with the drawings in my journal is that they evolve thoughout the life of that particular journal. They may be drawn and referenced on future pages or they may very well be reworked into something new or more complete. It is a great starting point for brainstorming almost like freewriting for drawing. Enjoy!

Two Hundred Thirty One

So I guess I was inspired by last nights image so I thought I would continue with the idea although tonight felt rushed. The images below are another image based off of a piece of piled fabric and then amplified. I enjoyed the process but I think the composition of this image bothers be a bit. It almost seems somewhat symmetrical in its outer shape which I can promise you is never my intent! Symmetry makes me crazy. Well there is always tomorrow night! Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Thirty

Look at that another milestone or should I say a round number. Never thought I would paint tonight, I have been tired for days and of course that’s when I feel like painting. Plus my husband dragged me to the gym tonight, which I’m now happy he did but originally I could think of like 57 other things I would rather be doing. Needless to say an hour at the gym made for a great state of mind and a new found energy. Oh and I tried the Jacobs ladder thing at the gym… its amazing. The image below began as a pencil drawing of a cropped section of a messy blanket and well it took a turn into my imagination by the end, no surprise there. I’m very content with it since there was no major stress and I like that it doesn’t feel as tight or constricted as some of my other work. Anyway, it is officially time for me to retire to my bed so goodnight and enjoy. See you next time.

Funny how your mind imagines what else this might be…. what do you see?

Two Hundred Twenty Eight

It’s been a week so far and its Wednesday. As some of you may know I’ve had a cold for like nearly a week now and it keeps evolving into different stages. The EVIL scratchy throat phase, that feels like a cougar tore it up for fun, the awkward unbalanced phase, where you can’t hear anything anyone says to you so you just shake and nod, the uncontrollable snot phase, where any sneeze may result in a fucking eruption of buggers (sorry its gross I know) and the current phase, Coughing Fits. Meaning, that I’ll think you’re grand, I’m fine just a sniffly nose and then the tickle comes and you know that in a matter of seconds a full blow coughing fit is about to follow. So you ungracefully excuse yourself from whatever situation your in; Driving your car while having an interesting phone conversation with your sister, discussing the obnoxious people you have to deal with at work all day or right in the middle of a somewhat serious conversation with your spouse about your future. Either way, BAM! its here and it will be for a few minutes, so accept it. Needless to say this has been my life for about 3 days now and since I am sick of having to excuse myself to go and die in the work bathroom, which at this point I’m sure people think a dying cow is living in there. So I just stop talking to people and start painting. This was the end result, 3 nights of just developing what initially was a hott mess. Now I can confidently say I am somewhat fond of this image. Yay me! My husband, who is wonderful and supportive, but had no idea what I was trying to do stated two things. His first response was, looks like a volcano. What? no no no. His second comment was, I like how it looks like layers or something. YES, that was one of the goals and he got it. I was happy that the color pallet was less rainbow-ish too, as that is a continuously obnoxious theme in my current works. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Twenty-Five

Another day, another portion of this image completed. I feel like I can’t finish this piece but I feel pretty confident about the direction its going. I want to work on the depth of the image as it all feels very close to the surface, only a few inches deep really. It is interesting how a completely imaginative environment can take on so much more then that once you’ve worked on developing it so endlessly. Enjoy and see you next time.
