Two Hundred and Eighty-Eight!

I have been making sketches of these tree rings for years now. It is almost like an obsession. I love the repetitive yet different experience you get with each new layer. The concept of it depicting the life of something has always intrigued me. This image is a mess, but I enjoy the bottom half. The cropped version of this image is what I enjoy the most. There is something about the washes on the bottom right that really draws me in, maybe it is in its simplicity.

Two Hundred Eighty-Seven!

Well here we are, image one of the newer version of my challenge, 79 images in 55 days. I haven’t worked in so long that the imagery just felt so sparatic. I like the range of marks and the use of color. It is funny what initially starts a piece for me. For this one, it was inspired during my drive home. There was a row of trees on the side of the road. I loved the way the trunks shot straight up  into the air and then became entwined in a web of branches. I cannot really speak to the other elements they just started to develop.

Two Hundred Sixty-Eight!

Last night I started painting for the fun of it and because the weather seemed perfect and I had a clear head and nothing to distract me. I love nights like that. Anyway I really had nothing in mind so I started to “doodle” and this is where we ended up. I’m not surprised to see that I ended up with clusters and webs, I mean lets be honest that is my favorite thing to draw, paint, make….

Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred and Sixty!

Another Day, another image…

I did a few of these random shape based images because I didn’t feel like thinking anymore.  January has been a very good month for me and I have been able to meet a lot of my monthly goals but in doing this I’m exhausted. The last two nights I was not capable of thinking while painting too. I wouldn’t automatically assume one needs to think the entire time they paint because some of what you do is just a natural reaction to the image developing in front of you but when I work on images that are representational I cannot help but be overly concerned with how recognizable the items are within the image.

Enjoy.
