I love the composition of this piece…. unlike most of the others this just grows out of the space where as the others seem to extend out in every direction off of the paper. Enjoy!

Part of the six piece series I created over the last few nights. All in graphite and micron pen. Enjoy!
All of the following images are made in the same manner, by applying a layer of graphite completely at will with no reference and then entering the space and creating depth and layers. I had a blast making these and the following five posts. I hope you find them as interesting or intriguing as I do. Enjoy!
I guess you have to switch it up sometimes! I was getting sick of painting although I think I enjoy the color from painting a lot more than a gray-scale image. What I do love about charcoal or graphite is the subtle shifts in tone that I have yet to accomplish the same control over with paint… at the rate I am practicing though maybe someday soon! Enjoy see you next time!
This was the initial image that began the obsession with that pod shape. Really it is just some fruit thing on a tree in my front yard, but it is not a life-like representation. I loved the way this image developed, it was totally organic. Literally just sprouting new elements as if grew. Pretty exciting. What will the next version look like??? Enjoy!
This image was more of an experimental piece. I would start a shape move to the next return and introduce a new element here and there. I would not consider this my favorite type of finished piece but I do like that it does not seem so static… It feels like a mash of bits from the ocean without a backdrop. Different types of seaweed or organic pieces tangled together. I think the word tangled means a lot to my work. I like weaving things together, almost in a way that would not really make sense but looks interesting. Something new to consider! Enjoy.
These images began the day of open studios but my rate of finishing pieces has decreased to like a snail’s pace… I’m sitting and pondering the next move quite a bit which is both good and bad. Anyway I began painting this pod shape which you will see in the next few images since I have become somewhat obsessed. The contrast in this image is to my liking I love the pops of color throughout the image.
Another day another image, as usual I started painting this morning and even though I did not work until 2:30 I was nearly late because I got involved in both this and two other images which are not yet completed. The image never got the depth I was looking for but I honestly got a bit tired of working on this image. It was one of the first ones I had drawn something in pencil first (well in a long time) and I guess I felt restricted. Anyway, Enjoy and see you next time!
I kinda of love how subtle this was before I added the dark marks in the center. I don’t mind the center but it actually felt more complete without it. Odd how that happens sometime. Enjoy and I’ll see you next time!
The image developed from a solid graphite wash. Its always fun to look into a mass of the same color and find shape and dimension and from there create a space or place. I know these images are not quite as developed as previous images but honestly I need to get some of these out of my system. They are typically a lot less stressful. Enjoy and see you next time!
