Two Hundred and Ninety!

It was nice to start this piece, because I grabbed a scrap piece of paper which happened to have a few marks already on it. It gave me a place to start that felt a bit different from the last few. I like that the piece moves across the paper and changes a bit along the way. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Eighty-Nine!

Based originally around those tree’s I spoke of the other day, that was how this image started. That being said it quickly moved into a different direction using the star like shape on the right and some sort of bulb-like shape on the left. Since I haven’t been painting I’m finding color difficult which is why there is such a rainbow feeling. Hopefully I will get that under control soon. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Eighty-Seven!

Well here we are, image one of the newer version of my challenge, 79 images in 55 days. I haven’t worked in so long that the imagery just felt so sparatic. I like the range of marks and the use of color. It is funny what initially starts a piece for me. For this one, it was inspired during my drive home. There was a row of trees on the side of the road. I loved the way the trunks shot straight up  into the air and then became entwined in a web of branches. I cannot really speak to the other elements they just started to develop.

Two Hundred Eighty-Four!

The most recent addition to my hands collection. I really struggled with this image. I couldn’t seem to figure it out and each night I would photograph it and stare at it over the course of the day trying to see what needed to happen next. The original piece I created I ended up cutting up and layering into this piece. It’s obvious on the top section but the lower half of this image is entirely pasted onto the heavier stock. It was even interesting to see how the two different watercolor papers reacted to the paint absorption. Granted I forgot to make note of which papers I used… FAIL. I’ll pay more attention next time. I love how the fence like structure floats around the page. I think I really want to play with this cut paper idea for a bit maybe in the next piece. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Eighty-Three!

A quick sketch from Friday, prior to starting work I decided to draw to start my day off the way I wish everyday could start. I did end up finishing it at home but it was nice to be able to stop throughout the day and take a peak at the image and add little elements throughout the work day. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Seventy-Six!

image

I was lucky enough to spend my weekend at my favorite seaside home, not mine but mi madres. There was loads of tea and yummy baked goods, nighttime fires and painting! The above image is a continuation of my other work. Still playing with shadow and a sense of being overwhelmed. This piece was a bit less emotionally chaotic since I was in a rather calm place when painting. Oddly enough I think the anxiety I was experiencing during the other painting made it a stronger piece. Either way the piece taught me more and I consider it complete. There is something I completely love about the greenery in the bottom left corner…. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Seventy-Five!

I’ve been playing with tracing shadows and in this case the shadow of my hand. It’s interesting because a shadow has no detail and in many cases can get distorted. Most of the hands in this image still easily translate but there is one which is a bit unusual. Hands are a funny topic for me. As an artist they are so important but I have always been very judgmental of peoples hands. Are their fingers to short, to long, pointy or fat? Are they old and wrinkly or still smooth and youthful? Are they hard working, do they tell a story or have they never really been worked? The reality is I love hands but this piece initially had little to do with the topic of hands. I cannot say exactly what it’s about but it is a reaction to too many stress factors. As a little insight, my husband and I are in the middle of one of those grown up moments, trying to purchase a home, and I guess I never realized the stress involved in the process. It seems funny to me that you have all these people involved to help and yet you feel completely lost along a lot of the journey. The one thing I can say is that I am learning. Enjoy and see you next time!

Tonight’s image started as something entirely different about a month ago and I used that under-painting to help develop the final image. I suppose its really just a study of shape and color. I do enjoy the piece but it feels like a piece of a complete image maybe due to its size or elongated shape. Either way Enjoy and See you next time.

Two Hundred Seventy Three

Series 365 - 173

Day 1 created on September 8th

This image may not be complete but I wanted to share it now. I really enjoy sections but the upper left corner and the right semi circle section feel incomplete. Lets see what tonight brings I haven’t decided which piece I want to work on. Enjoy and see you next time!

Day 2 – revisited on September 9th

The left portion of the painting was really bothering me hence the addition of a new layer. I love the effect it has on the area but I wish I had gone darker. I feel that this idea could work really well with the trickling in of light. There is always a next time! Enjoy
