Now this is an image that has been slowly in progress for a while. I struggled towards the end and really feel that the upper left is incomplete but at this point I’m going to call it and if in the future I decide I want to tackle the image again I will. Enjoy and see you next time!
This was the image I referred to in my previous post. Another image in which I reverted to an earlier body of work/style. This one took a different approach though. focusing primarily on the hands you get a very strange feeling when you look at this. The hands are distorted and strange but it forces me to really look at it. Enjoy and see you next time.
Another hand. I’m sure people are all set with my hands fascination but unfortunately for you I am not! For me they seem to present themselves every time I get overwhelmed so I guess it is appropriate then. It is always amazing the emotion you can read from a single gesture of one body part. I never have liked drawing people but I love portraits so when I took the picture that I used as reference for this drawing the hands were actually the selling factor. I like the odd proportions which since I am not exactly a photo realistic painter is absolutely fine by me. It gives it character. Straight off the bat I will admit had I not drawn this in pen I would make his head a bit smaller, its kind of ginormous! Anyway enjoy and see you next time!
I feel like people are going to wonder what I am thinking about but current;y I’m not really sure. All I know is I am fixated on this idea of the body, being rooted and becoming part of the environment that surrounds you. It seems natural that I turn to different type of growths such as a fungi, since I have always been captivated by their shape and color. They are a strange organism, growing on decaying organic matter. Anyway, it just feels like another piece from a series of images floating around in my head. Enjoy and see you next time!
This image is a bit busy, but it had to be done. It was one of those days when you see that an image could be quiet and calm but everything going on around you says you screams chaos. The image feels impulsive and incomplete but there are elements I love. As you travel through this piece you experience different moments and emotions. I was lucky enough to spend my weekend at my favorite seaside home, not mine but mi madres. There was loads of tea and yummy baked goods, nighttime fires and painting! The above image is a continuation of my other work. Still playing with shadow and a sense of being overwhelmed. This piece was a bit less emotionally chaotic since I was in a rather calm place when painting. Oddly enough I think the anxiety I was experiencing during the other painting made it a stronger piece. Either way the piece taught me more and I consider it complete. There is something I completely love about the greenery in the bottom left corner…. Enjoy and see you next time!
I’ve been playing with tracing shadows and in this case the shadow of my hand. It’s interesting because a shadow has no detail and in many cases can get distorted. Most of the hands in this image still easily translate but there is one which is a bit unusual. Hands are a funny topic for me. As an artist they are so important but I have always been very judgmental of peoples hands. Are their fingers to short, to long, pointy or fat? Are they old and wrinkly or still smooth and youthful? Are they hard working, do they tell a story or have they never really been worked? The reality is I love hands but this piece initially had little to do with the topic of hands. I cannot say exactly what it’s about but it is a reaction to too many stress factors. As a little insight, my husband and I are in the middle of one of those grown up moments, trying to purchase a home, and I guess I never realized the stress involved in the process. It seems funny to me that you have all these people involved to help and yet you feel completely lost along a lot of the journey. The one thing I can say is that I am learning. Day 2 – revisited on September 9th
The left portion of the painting was really bothering me hence the addition of a new layer. I love the effect it has on the area but I wish I had gone darker. I feel that this idea could work really well with the trickling in of light. There is always a next time! Enjoy
