Two Hundred Thirty

Look at that another milestone or should I say a round number. Never thought I would paint tonight, I have been tired for days and of course that’s when I feel like painting. Plus my husband dragged me to the gym tonight, which I’m now happy he did but originally I could think of like 57 other things I would rather be doing. Needless to say an hour at the gym made for a great state of mind and a new found energy. Oh and I tried the Jacobs ladder thing at the gym… its amazing. The image below began as a pencil drawing of a cropped section of a messy blanket and well it took a turn into my imagination by the end, no surprise there. I’m very content with it since there was no major stress and I like that it doesn’t feel as tight or constricted as some of my other work. Anyway, it is officially time for me to retire to my bed so goodnight and enjoy. See you next time.

Funny how your mind imagines what else this might be…. what do you see?

Two Hundred Twenty Nine

Another lazy day, but atleast by the end of the day I had run 3 miles, painted an OK picture and prepped all the meals for the week. I know it does not sound very exciting but I feel like this a productive Sunday. Anyway, the actual image above I do not like but I did sit down and try today which is sometimes the hardest part. Lets see what tomorrow brings. Enjoy.

Two Hundred Twenty Eight

It’s been a week so far and its Wednesday. As some of you may know I’ve had a cold for like nearly a week now and it keeps evolving into different stages. The EVIL scratchy throat phase, that feels like a cougar tore it up for fun, the awkward unbalanced phase, where you can’t hear anything anyone says to you so you just shake and nod, the uncontrollable snot phase, where any sneeze may result in a fucking eruption of buggers (sorry its gross I know) and the current phase, Coughing Fits. Meaning, that I’ll think you’re grand, I’m fine just a sniffly nose and then the tickle comes and you know that in a matter of seconds a full blow coughing fit is about to follow. So you ungracefully excuse yourself from whatever situation your in; Driving your car while having an interesting phone conversation with your sister, discussing the obnoxious people you have to deal with at work all day or right in the middle of a somewhat serious conversation with your spouse about your future. Either way, BAM! its here and it will be for a few minutes, so accept it. Needless to say this has been my life for about 3 days now and since I am sick of having to excuse myself to go and die in the work bathroom, which at this point I’m sure people think a dying cow is living in there. So I just stop talking to people and start painting. This was the end result, 3 nights of just developing what initially was a hott mess. Now I can confidently say I am somewhat fond of this image. Yay me! My husband, who is wonderful and supportive, but had no idea what I was trying to do stated two things. His first response was, looks like a volcano. What? no no no. His second comment was, I like how it looks like layers or something. YES, that was one of the goals and he got it. I was happy that the color pallet was less rainbow-ish too, as that is a continuously obnoxious theme in my current works. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Twenty-Seven

Since I am somewhat bogged down in the apartment today, trying to kick this obnoxious head cold I was left with little to do. I finished the first season of Orange is the New Black last night so with no TV show to turn to the next best relaxing option was to paint. Granted imagery was not popping into my brain the way I would have liked it, I drew from my past obsessions, rocks, caves and a good bit of shading of course. Now the colors are once again looking a little too rainbow-ish for me, but I’m working on that! Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Twenty-Six

Yesterday was a rather frustrating day. I was preparing for a hike up Mt Katahdin in Maine and after quite a bit of arranging, I started to come down with some sort of bug Thursday morning, which by no means settled yesterday. Needless to say I had to cancel the trip because hiking for 11 hours, then driving home for 6, just didn’t seem like a smart decision in my current condition. Not to mention my husband was in way worse shape then I was with this bug and was absolutely not going to be able to hike. I came home yesterday in the pouring rain, which I love and situated the apartment so I could sit and stare out the window. I started sketching based off of different items in my line of vision and well this was the outcome. Not too much but it is fun to draw so carelessly. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Twenty-Five

Another day, another portion of this image completed. I feel like I can’t finish this piece but I feel pretty confident about the direction its going. I want to work on the depth of the image as it all feels very close to the surface, only a few inches deep really. It is interesting how a completely imaginative environment can take on so much more then that once you’ve worked on developing it so endlessly. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Twenty-Three & Twenty Four

This is the same piece in different stages on two separate nights. The whole time, it has been evolving from one image to the next. Who knows what will happen when I finish it.

Two Hundred Twenty-One!

Yesterday, after running around all morning I finally had a chance to sit down and relax. By relaxing I do mean working on a painting. Not sure what inspired this image other than I wanted to try something new. The bird is pretty sweet the saddle Idea I love, but lets be honest the saddle is so horribly angled it makes me mental. Suppose that’s why people typically sketch prior to painting! Try that next time. Enjoy!

Two Hundred Nineteen-Twenty… I’m Back.

So needless to say that is has been quite some time since my last post. A lot has happened over the past few months, which I will explain. Regardless a series of events have brought me back to myself and I was able to sit down and finally pick up a paint brush again. It’s always strange to me how easily you can stray from something that brings you such joy and how hard it can be to jump back on board.

It began back in October, when Lee and I moved to a town that was much more central for our lives. Lee’s commute had been over 2 hours on a normal commuting day and since he is the bread-winner, it was important for him to not spend 4 hours in the car each day. That much time can make a person go crazy, but most of all we never got to see each other. Once we moved, my commute doubled and although I loved the company I was working for, it was never meant to be my career. Eventually, I fell into a wonderful job, that although has nothing to do with my major or who I am as a person, is a wonderful company. Shout out to Suffolk Construction, Risk Management represent! HA ridiculous. All of this was happening over those crazy holiday months when nothing seems normal and no one has anytime.

My artwork fell to the back burner and although I kept trying to rekindle the flame nothing seemed to work. Once I took the position at Suffolk, my days became normal but I was settling. Lets just say settling took me a while. I was kind of trying to find myself again, a fresh new start. It always seems to come around the same time of the year, not January like everyone would imagine, normally late February into March. First it was getting the job under my belt, then I started focusing on my health, which has recently turned to Crossfit. Its only been 2 weeks, but I love it already! And finally, my artwork comes into play.

The last few weeks were weird, I felt odd but could not quite pin point it. Then the other day out of the blue I just picked up a pen and started to draw an image I had been thinking about. Now its nothing special, more of a face then anything, but it seemed important.

Now as you can see, it’s a doodle, it’s also Day Two Hundred and Nineteen. It felt good to make something, but I couldn’t stop here. Oddly enough it took me another few days to think to paint it and even trying to start  that seemed like a battle. My artist “nook” was covered in stuff, its like a drop place for anything I ‘ll “get to later.” Regardless, I came home from work one night and for no reason I was mad as hell. I started cleaning, cleaning was a good start. Then I tried to make the atmosphere relaxing, I know its cheesy but I lit a few candles and put on some classical music. It seemed to work because before I knew I was setting up the table, filling up the water jug and taping down the paper.

Then I began. I knew I was thinking about the above image but I didn’t really plan it on the page. I love the end result though. I thought initially that I only loved it because it was the first thing I had done in over 2 months but really I think it might actually be somewhat interesting.

photo-36

The above is the complete image, also known now as Day Two Hundred Twenty. As always, I have included a cropped version to see more details although I didn’t really make too many small intricacies to draw you in. What I love that happened unintentionally is the overlay of colors. Originally, I thought that I enjoyed the lower section better, but the more “feathery” looking section has grown on me.

photo-35

In the end, I think this may be the start to another good run. I know I to some degree failed at my initial goal of 365 images in the year, but I’m trying to think of this in a new light. I am an artist, I am creative but I am a real life girl and unfortunately I cannot be an artist full-time and make ends meet quite yet. That’s not to say that that day will never come because it will, I’m just hoping it happens before I retire!

The new goal is to complete the challenge. I’m not giving myself a deadline, but the sooner I complete it the better. This is a rather broad adjustment but hopefully that means that without restraints I may be able to complete this thing stress free.

Enjoy and I’ll see you next time.

Two Hundred Eighteen!

This image started as a color wheel kind of thing that gradually grew into a bit more. Now the color is a bit overwhelming, but I do love the overall shape that developed. Enjoy and see you next time!
