Three Hundred and Nineteen!

A family friend joined us for dinner on Sunday evening. He has always supported my artwork and in turn I have always tried to make items that I know he would enjoy. I started the image earlier in the day, a simple Bluebird. They are such a cute little thing. Before last year I had never seen one but then on a mother daughter trip to the cape we had the opportunity to see the most bizarre Bluebird. He was obsessed with the car mirror. I couldn’t tell if he was defending his territory or attempting to woo a mate, granted the female and male do not look the same, or maybe he was just obsessed with his appearance who knows. Needless to say after days of this fellow consistently attempting to get into my side mirrors, my car was covered in poop. I guess it was worth it. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Twelve!

Trying to chug along with this challenge and luckily I finished another image last night. This little fellow was fun to paint but I will admit he looks a bit drunk. Honestly, I don’t mind, I sometimes wish I didn’t aim to create an image so life-like. I’m trying to work through it and just accept the end result as OK. I think It gives it character, it’s our imperfections that make us unique and I feel the same or at least I’m trying to feel the same with my painting! Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Nine!

Decided to draw in bed this time. Winter has definitely taken a toll on me, whether it be mental or physical could be debated but either way I’m exhausted. At times in the evening I find myself drifting away into a space filled with random thoughts, ideas or images. Last night, when I closed my eyes in bed I started to image a creature. Somewhat like a bird, kind of like a skeleton but having roots in the human figure. The face came first and I think its apparent as it seems the most thought out or maybe it appears that way because that was already an image in my head. Either way the image developed from there and what made it fun was the lack of thought. No stress,  just me, a pen and a sheet of paper.  Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Eight!

Last post of the day, I promise! I tried to integrate the cooler tones I was seeing outside into this image. Simultaneously, there was a documentary on a mountain range in California which I found inspiring and used as a reference tool. I love the mountains and cannot wait for my hiking season to begin. I only hike from Spring to mid fall as I do not own the winter gear but have always been in awe of those who are brave enough to go out. They must experience such quiet calm moments along the way. When hiking the mountains I find that my favorite moments are when I can hear nothing else but the wind passing through the trees. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three hundred and Seven!

Okay, so in all fairness this image is a little creepy. The floating dog heads, flowers and spinal references just seem so random. I really do not know what I was doing… I will blame it on wine and lack of sleep. This weekend I realized I was falling behind on my 1.5 drawings before April 2nd and tried to just draw for ages. The images seemed to start normal but as I got tired I began to turn to whatever was in my muscle memory. ,Result nervous system/web-like patterns and teeth/stones/spinal cord like structures. Lets be honest, I would draw that type of thing everyday if it got me anywhere but obviously that is not where my success lies! Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Six!

When you start drawing buildings and allow your pen to just go this is sometimes the result. Initially starting with the clock tower the buildings began to take on influence from Indian Culture. I am probably watching too many shows on Indian food as it is a new obsession. The color is mental but that was due to an orange highlighter. I went a bit crazy with it and naturally as soon as the brush hit those areas the orange leached into whatever color I tried to put near if forcing the image to have an unintended warm glow. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and One!

Another New England Day has arrived and with it more snow. The Winter has officially come to that point where every time I see a snow flake I want to lay down where ever I am and throw a royal tantrum. I’m fully aware that I live in New England and that snow is a part of our winters here but for all of you who keep saying “you should be used to this by now” just know that I am on the verge of punching you in the face. The image below I believe came from my subconscious. Initially based off mound of good old White Powder the warming forces have now encompassed them and force them into a warming spring-like environment. I hope Spring pops out soon from behind whatever massive snow bank it is currently hiding behind. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Nine!

This image is so long! Well not really if we were to discuss the height but in relation to its width. This was a watercolor study done to work on color and shape development. It was a very loose and carefree piece which was nice as it allowed me to work very naturally. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Ninety-Five!

For those of you that are not aware, New England has had an astronomical amount of snow, 6 feet in two weeks to be exact. Having grown up here I consider myself a true New Englander but this would test a lot of people. I will say that I have had more snow days in the past two weeks than ever before in a season granted if we were to really get into it, I just work for a better company now that seems to understand that my job is not worth risking my life. Thank you current employer! Anyway, this image started with a rant about snow which quickly developed into something else. In the process of clearing out my house of snow I have started sculpting the snow into unnatural shapes but there is something about the idea of taking what is natural and tweaking it a bit to make you stop and question whether it could actually have occurred naturally or had a helping hand. I always think back to playing at the beach or in the woods where out of human habit we pile things up or lay things down. After a while it become part of the surroundings but there is still an unnatural quality to it. Enough. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred Ninety-Four

It’s a bugs life….. well maybe. This started because I wanted to draw a cricket but at the time I got overwhelmed by the cricket, hence the incomplete bug at the top of the image. Naturally I chose a new bug, a beetle to be exact, which one? who knows, who cares to be quite honest. I just know that I enjoyed painting him. Maybe this is because of my recent run in with Lady Bugs. I don’t know where the come from but I always seem to have one in my house. Mind you its mid winter and approximately 20 degrees outside. A little concerning but that’s what Terminex is for! Enjoy and see you next time.
