Three hundred and Seven!

Okay, so in all fairness this image is a little creepy. The floating dog heads, flowers and spinal references just seem so random. I really do not know what I was doing… I will blame it on wine and lack of sleep. This weekend I realized I was falling behind on my 1.5 drawings before April 2nd and tried to just draw for ages. The images seemed to start normal but as I got tired I began to turn to whatever was in my muscle memory. ,Result nervous system/web-like patterns and teeth/stones/spinal cord like structures. Lets be honest, I would draw that type of thing everyday if it got me anywhere but obviously that is not where my success lies! Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Five!

The color in this seemed bright to me at first but the more I stare at it the more it seems to grow on me. I really think that the Snowmageddon we have all been experiencing has forced many of us into this mental frenzy of dreaming about spring. Whether it be the imagery or the colors I feel that my work has absolutely started to embody this. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Four!

Another doodle started at work and finished at home. These small-scale city/landscapes are great sanity tools. The small details and disorienting angles suck you in and help you clear your head of the small issues currently clogging up your mind. I really tried to make this image confusing once I brought it home, utilizing color and washes to make it a bit harder to decipher which part belongs to where. I enjoy the play on whether it’s an image of a large house or if it’s a city-scape made of multiple buildings. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Three!

Highlighting stuff is such a fascination. It probably falls more to the accent of neon color but either way I love it! This image is far from a finished piece but like I mentioned in the challenge revision, I do not have time to get caught up in one image. I like the combination of structural and abstract, in particular the hive-like shape. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Two!

Doodles that start at work are sometimes exactly what you need to get ideas flowing. They serve as a mindless drawing and once you tune in may develop into something more. I really enjoy the elements that make up this drawing. The combination of pen, highlighter and paint make for an interesting variation. The colors are of course somewhat limited to what was available but even that serves as a great learning point. Please let me know your thoughts. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and One!

Another New England Day has arrived and with it more snow. The Winter has officially come to that point where every time I see a snow flake I want to lay down where ever I am and throw a royal tantrum. I’m fully aware that I live in New England and that snow is a part of our winters here but for all of you who keep saying “you should be used to this by now” just know that I am on the verge of punching you in the face. The image below I believe came from my subconscious. Initially based off mound of good old White Powder the warming forces have now encompassed them and force them into a warming spring-like environment. I hope Spring pops out soon from behind whatever massive snow bank it is currently hiding behind. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred and Ninety-Nine!

This image is so long! Well not really if we were to discuss the height but in relation to its width. This was a watercolor study done to work on color and shape development. It was a very loose and carefree piece which was nice as it allowed me to work very naturally. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred Ninety-Five!

For those of you that are not aware, New England has had an astronomical amount of snow, 6 feet in two weeks to be exact. Having grown up here I consider myself a true New Englander but this would test a lot of people. I will say that I have had more snow days in the past two weeks than ever before in a season granted if we were to really get into it, I just work for a better company now that seems to understand that my job is not worth risking my life. Thank you current employer! Anyway, this image started with a rant about snow which quickly developed into something else. In the process of clearing out my house of snow I have started sculpting the snow into unnatural shapes but there is something about the idea of taking what is natural and tweaking it a bit to make you stop and question whether it could actually have occurred naturally or had a helping hand. I always think back to playing at the beach or in the woods where out of human habit we pile things up or lay things down. After a while it become part of the surroundings but there is still an unnatural quality to it. Enough. Enjoy and see you next time.

Two Hundred and Ninety One!

Let’s revert back to the tree like imagery once again…. Not a fan but I am trying to just go with the challenge and not edit what I post. Based partly on the view from my back window, which currently comprises of snow mounds 4 feet high and the tops of fences and shrubbery peaking out from behind it. I will say that I was able to integrate some thoughts which always feels good. I love journaling and this is a way for me to integrate that idea into my works. Enjoy and see you next time!

Two Hundred and Ninety!

It was nice to start this piece, because I grabbed a scrap piece of paper which happened to have a few marks already on it. It gave me a place to start that felt a bit different from the last few. I like that the piece moves across the paper and changes a bit along the way. Enjoy and see you next time!
