Three Hundred And Forty-One!

This was loosely based on a self-portrait I took weeks ago. I had wrapped up for the winter weather and loved the way my eyes looked peering through all the layers. As my mother pointed out, it has references topics which make people uneasy but I think/hope people can look past that. I tried to dive into the patterning and line work. There is something I really enjoy about the version which contains watercolor. It feels so different from anything I have done before. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Eight!

Foxes are pretty darn amazing or should I say fantastic. After watching the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox (absolutely worth watching) I naturally decided that I would integrate a fox into my imagery this weekend. If you have ever seen a video about foxes diving for mice under the snow you will understand just how amazing their hunting/hearing skills really are. This image was an attempt at merging the furry critter with my abstract world. Not exactly successful but on the right track. I accidentally made it look like the branches are impaling the fox (not my intention).  Unfortunately this leads down the road of a hunting more than I would ever like to go down. I guess I will have to do a bit more pre-planning on the next piece. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-Seven!

It’s Lady Boo Boo in all her glory! For those who have not had the pleasure of meeting this fantastic lady, this is my Pomeranian. She is quite the lady and has a very majestic way about her. She always stands tall and alert even as she gets older. This winter was fun as she loves the snow and utilized the snow piles in our yards as look out posts.  I do not have too much more to say other than I am pumped that I was able to capture her aging face in this image as I tend to always make her look like a younger pup. This is who she really is… Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Five!

This was the image I referred to in my previous post. Another image in which I reverted to an earlier body of work/style. This one took a different approach though. focusing primarily on the hands you get a very strange feeling when you look at this. The hands are distorted and strange but it forces me to really look at it. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Four!

Sometimes you just need to revert back to an earlier style to keep your self moving in the right direction. This and the next image are not my favorites but they helped me stay focused and that is all I really needed this week. What I do enjoy is the transparency of layers that is happening due to an under painting. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-Three!

Alright, so I love going to cafes more than most people understand. I like the vibe, I love the food and beverages but most of all I love people watching. I sit back, pick up a pen and paper and sketch or write about those around me. I like to figure out their story and by no means do I mean their real life story. We are talking about the one I assign to them. The other evening, when the weather was absolutely the best we have had this year, I felt inspired to go out after work to the cafe and draw. While there I encountered a vast amount of people considering it was a Wednesday but they were all so different. I became fixated on this elderly gent who seemed so lonely. He was there far longer than I was and for the majority of the time he only had a coffee in hand. He stared blankly at a pastry case but not as if longing for its contents almost as if caught up in a memory or thought. If makes you wonder what a person is thinking sometimes. Anyway, as I have mentioned before people are not my strength which is in part why I am forcing this exercise more often. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-Two!

Line work, like you see in the image below, is so relaxing for me. It is somewhat meditative to just get lost in the repetitive behavior. It is funny, I tend to draw things like this on the sides of note pages or while attending a meeting, it doesn’t distract me but almost relaxes and focuses my mind. I once heard that those who doodle while they listen to a lecture or meeting actually retain more information, I think it works for me otherwise I distract myself by looking out the window. Funny how a bird outside a window or an interesting cloud can completely take me away but a page full of doodles focuses my mind on what I am hearing. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-One!

Drew these little two while in bed, just a little sketch but it was relaxing to do. The guy offering the present looks ridiculous like a stuffed animal of something. I love the other guy though, his face really works for me. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty!

Nothing like a Squirrel praising the sky. Maybe this means spring is coming? Or maybe he is begging for winder to be over. Another arctic blast arrived last night and with it a few inches of snow. I think by diving into imagery of happy critters and sunny skies I am subconsciously trying to promote a healthier state of mind. Winter is becoming a drag… At least this guy exists though, even with the wiggliest fingers I have ever seen. Enjoy, see you next time!

Three Hundred and Twenty Nine!

Back to my favorite little critters. Hands up in the bathroom! I always love these type of images, they are actually the hardest for me to paint but are so rewarding. I would also like to say that this is probably the closets I’ll get to a self-portrait anytime soon. Enjoy and see you next time!
