Three Hundred and Forty-Seven!

OK, I finally painted a human that doesn’t make me want to tear my eyeballs out. Major success story here! As usual her head is way too large for her body but she is old and sometimes old people have really big facial features you know ears, noses and so on. For some reason I was interested in painting a woman with layers of coats but on route to that image I kind of stumbled on this elderly lady hunched over her cane and felt inspired. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Forty-Five!

It feels like a strange pod of jellyfish. I liked the image here but the color is WAY TO PURE. I really need to do a second attempt with this image and tone it down a bit. The creatures are definitely aquatic but take elements from the Veiled Lady Mushroom which is honestly one of my favorite things to draw. I think they are amazing plant structures. If you are not familiar with them you should probably look it up. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Forty-Four!

Experimental piece. It honestly had no real goal but as I moved through the image I started to focus on different elements. I always love when images emerge in an abstract and there are quite a few in this one. What do you see? Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Forty-Three!

This creature is crazy looking. His snout is so distorted but I’m OK with it. I wanted a snarl like face and I think I achieved it. I won’t lie I have no idea what type of animal this is. I literally Googled snarling animal faces and an image somewhat similar to that below popped up and I ran with it. I’d say its a cat… maybe? Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-nine!

Sometimes babies are the hardest thing to draw and well when not done well they look like little creepy creatures. Unfortunately that is what happened with this image. As I’ve stated I am trying to just accept the work as I produce it which is the only reason I am posting this otherwise I would put this in the scrap paper pile. Please take note that the baby I used as reference is SO much cuter than depicted here. Anyway, one more down 26 to go. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Forty -Two!

Time to mass produce. The weekend arrives and I feel like from Friday at 4 pm to Sunday at 10 pm I am just pushing through image after image. I tend to work on multiple at one time which helps because I’m constantly looking at each image from a different perspective. I don’t really have time to get caught up in one element or image. I find that if I have 4 images happening on one piece of plexi they tend to feed off each other whether it be color or subject matter. I saw that happening in the next few pieces. I always love the abstract images because they tend to teach me more about how to work with watercolor. They are much more experimental than the animal based imagery. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred And Forty-One!

This was loosely based on a self-portrait I took weeks ago. I had wrapped up for the winter weather and loved the way my eyes looked peering through all the layers. As my mother pointed out, it has references topics which make people uneasy but I think/hope people can look past that. I tried to dive into the patterning and line work. There is something I really enjoy about the version which contains watercolor. It feels so different from anything I have done before. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Eight!

Foxes are pretty darn amazing or should I say fantastic. After watching the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox (absolutely worth watching) I naturally decided that I would integrate a fox into my imagery this weekend. If you have ever seen a video about foxes diving for mice under the snow you will understand just how amazing their hunting/hearing skills really are. This image was an attempt at merging the furry critter with my abstract world. Not exactly successful but on the right track. I accidentally made it look like the branches are impaling the fox (not my intention).  Unfortunately this leads down the road of a hunting more than I would ever like to go down. I guess I will have to do a bit more pre-planning on the next piece. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-Seven!

It’s Lady Boo Boo in all her glory! For those who have not had the pleasure of meeting this fantastic lady, this is my Pomeranian. She is quite the lady and has a very majestic way about her. She always stands tall and alert even as she gets older. This winter was fun as she loves the snow and utilized the snow piles in our yards as look out posts.  I do not have too much more to say other than I am pumped that I was able to capture her aging face in this image as I tend to always make her look like a younger pup. This is who she really is… Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Six!

Probably my least favorite image of the weekend but I was soooooo tired. I just started sectioning off parts of the paper until the image below developed. The paper I was working on was a heavy Arches watercolor and the rough surface made it very difficult to do clean line work. I don’t know if I will continue to use this paper as it almost eliminates the idea of using pen with the painting and I really do not like that idea. Enjoy and see you next time.
