Three Hundred and Forty-Four!

Experimental piece. It honestly had no real goal but as I moved through the image I started to focus on different elements. I always love when images emerge in an abstract and there are quite a few in this one. What do you see? Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Forty!

Carving an image has always been one of the most reward techniques for me. I decided to pick up my tools and tackle and image or two as part of this challenge and I am happy to say it turned out better than anticipated. I have been working on merging two worlds, the creatures which tell a story and abstract environments that have defined my work for so long. I will probably continue with this work once I finish this challenge. For now it’s rather time-consuming and time I do not have. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-nine!

Sometimes babies are the hardest thing to draw and well when not done well they look like little creepy creatures. Unfortunately that is what happened with this image. As I’ve stated I am trying to just accept the work as I produce it which is the only reason I am posting this otherwise I would put this in the scrap paper pile. Please take note that the baby I used as reference is SO much cuter than depicted here. Anyway, one more down 26 to go. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Forty -Two!

Time to mass produce. The weekend arrives and I feel like from Friday at 4 pm to Sunday at 10 pm I am just pushing through image after image. I tend to work on multiple at one time which helps because I’m constantly looking at each image from a different perspective. I don’t really have time to get caught up in one element or image. I find that if I have 4 images happening on one piece of plexi they tend to feed off each other whether it be color or subject matter. I saw that happening in the next few pieces. I always love the abstract images because they tend to teach me more about how to work with watercolor. They are much more experimental than the animal based imagery. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred And Forty-One!

This was loosely based on a self-portrait I took weeks ago. I had wrapped up for the winter weather and loved the way my eyes looked peering through all the layers. As my mother pointed out, it has references topics which make people uneasy but I think/hope people can look past that. I tried to dive into the patterning and line work. There is something I really enjoy about the version which contains watercolor. It feels so different from anything I have done before. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Six!

Probably my least favorite image of the weekend but I was soooooo tired. I just started sectioning off parts of the paper until the image below developed. The paper I was working on was a heavy Arches watercolor and the rough surface made it very difficult to do clean line work. I don’t know if I will continue to use this paper as it almost eliminates the idea of using pen with the painting and I really do not like that idea. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Thirty-Four!

Sometimes you just need to revert back to an earlier style to keep your self moving in the right direction. This and the next image are not my favorites but they helped me stay focused and that is all I really needed this week. What I do enjoy is the transparency of layers that is happening due to an under painting. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred and Thirty-Two!

Line work, like you see in the image below, is so relaxing for me. It is somewhat meditative to just get lost in the repetitive behavior. It is funny, I tend to draw things like this on the sides of note pages or while attending a meeting, it doesn’t distract me but almost relaxes and focuses my mind. I once heard that those who doodle while they listen to a lecture or meeting actually retain more information, I think it works for me otherwise I distract myself by looking out the window. Funny how a bird outside a window or an interesting cloud can completely take me away but a page full of doodles focuses my mind on what I am hearing. Enjoy and see you next time.

Three Hundred and Twenty Eight!

Woke up early this morning and when I looked out at the snow I saw a cluster of shapes which at 6:30am looked like a bunch of faces. Easy image and great way to start the day. Enjoy and see you next time!

Three Hundred And Twenty Three!

Well it is very safe to say that this is a combination image. It started as one of those cityscapes but like a strange nautical version which I thought was horrible so naturally I draw a hand over it! I love the overlay of color and shape that is developing here as it had to develop as the result of drawing the hand. It was completely reactive which meant rather stress free! love it. Enjoy and see you next time!
